What Is a Pet Travel Certificate?

A pet travel certificate, also known as a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI), is an official document issued by a licensed veterinarian. It confirms that your pet is healthy, up to date on required vaccinations, and safe to travel.

The certificate includes:

  • Examination findings from a licensed veterinarian
  • Vaccination history (especially rabies)
  • Microchip information, if required
  • Parasite prevention or testing records
  • Statement of your pet’s overall health status

Each airline and country may have different regulations, so it’s essential to begin the process early.

Domestic Travel Requirements

If you’re traveling within the United States, most airlines require a valid health certificate issued within 10 days of departure. Requirements can vary by airline and destination state, so we recommend checking your airline’s pet travel policy before your appointment.

International Travel Requirements

Traveling internationally with your pet requires advanced planning—sometimes months in advance. Each country has specific entry requirements that may include:

  • Rabies titers
  • Specific microchipping standards
  • Multiple vaccines and health tests
  • Government endorsement of health documents

We can help you navigate these steps and ensure your paperwork is completed accurately and on time.

Travel With Confidence

Our goal is to make pet travel stress-free for you and your companion. With expert guidance and timely preparation, we help ensure smooth journeys for families in Roseville, Citrus Heights, Lincoln, and beyond.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

Your pet will receive a full physical exam to confirm they’re healthy and fit for travel. We’ll review their medical records, update any required vaccines, and complete all documentation necessary. If you’re unsure about your destination’s requirements, we can help guide you to the appropriate resources.
